This year Highclere Stud have enjoyed stellar success as a nursey as well as a leading consignor with some outstanding results on the track. The headlines have recently put the spotlight on the unbeaten spectacular miler and future stallion, Palace Pier who was bred and raised at Highclere Stud before being sold to John Gosden as a yearling at Tattersalls Book 1 sale for 600,000gns.

Palace Pier win Gr.1 St James’s Palace at Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot this year saw an incredible three Highclere Stud graduates on the podium throughout the week, Palace Pier showed his class winning the Gr.1 St James’s Palace stakes beating a top class field, another future stallion Golden Horde won the Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup Gr.1 and Fujaira Prince won the Copper Horse Handicap. Golden Horde was purchased by Clive Cox from Highclere Stud’s Goffs UK Premier Yearling sale draft in 2018 for £60,000 and Fujaira Prince was sourced by Roger Varian for 90,000gns from our draft at Tattersalls Book 1.

Further Group 1 success for the Highclere Stud consignment came later in June in France when the Highclere Stud Tattersalls Book 2 graduate, Way To Paris won the Gr. 1 Grand Prix de St Cloud. Palace Pier then later displayed outstanding class in August to win The Gr.1 Haras du Fresnay le Bouffard Prix Jacques le Marois.

Internationally, Highclere Stud Book 1 Graduate Domestic Spending powered clear to win The Saratoga Derby for Klaravich Stables Inc. and King’s Kaper a Highclere Stud home bred was second by a whisker in the Italian Derby Gr.2 – King’s Kaper is trained by Mark Johnson and was sourced by the maestro from our Tattersalls Book 2 draft in 2018 for just 11,000gns.
