Highclere Stud yearling Powers to victory in Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr.1)

Power quickened from well off the pace to land the Abu Dhabi Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr.1) at the Curragh today.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “He’s a big, powerful colt – that’s why he got his name.  His two-year-old form was very solid and he is a colt with lots of class.  He’ll probably go for the St James’s Palace Stakes now.”

Power won the Goffs National Stakes (Gr.1) last year, having also finished a close second in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes (Gr.1) and winning both the Coventry Stakes (Gr.2) at Royal Ascot and Marble Stakes (L) earlier in the year.

This three-year-old colt by Oasis Dream, was consigned as a yearling by Highclere Stud at Tattersalls October Yearling Sales.  Bred by Norelands and Hugo Lascelles, Power is a half-sister to the Unfuwain filly Thakafaat, who won the Ribblesdale Stakes.  Both are out of the winning two-year-old filly Frappe, a half-sister to 2,000 Guineas winner Footstepsinthesand.
