Bonfire’s victory in the Dante Stakes (Gr.2) at York today added to the impressive tally of high-class winners this season who were bred, raised or consigned by Highclere Stud.
Bonfire was bred and raised by Highclere Stud in partnership with Floors Stud. By Manduro he was purchased by John Warren Bloodstock for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1.
Trained by Andrew Balding, he is now second favourite for the Epsom Derby (Gr.1) with the favourite being Camelot, the 2,000 Guineas (Gr.1) winner who was also raised and consigned by Highclere Stud.
A half-brother to Musidora Stakes (Gr.3) winner Joviality, Bonfire was winning first time out this season, having finished an unlucky second in the Criterium International (Gr.1) last year as a two-year-old.
Highclere is also likely to be represented in the Epsom Oaks (Gr.1) with Vow, winner of the Oaks Trial Stakes (L) at Lingfield for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing. This Motivator filly was consigned by Highclere Stud and purchased by John Warren Bloodstock from Tattersalls for 60,000gns.
