Highclere resident sire Paco Boy notched up another superb weekend on the track with the Highclere bred, sold and raced Garcia winning the very valuable £60,000 Silver Bowl Stakes at Haydock and Maneen decisively winning a decent Handicap over 1m2f at The Curragh, now heads to the Gr.3 International Stakes in June.
Paco Boy’s leading colt Galileo Gold also put in an incredibly brave performance to finish second in the Gr.1 Irish 2000 Guineas on Saturday on unfavourably heavy ground. Trainer Hugo Palmer reported Galileo Gold to be in good form this morning and is relishing the idea of a rematch with Awtaad in the Gr.1 St James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.

Imperial Aviator proved a different class on Saturday pulling clear of the field to win the Al Zubarah Gold Cup by an impressive four and a half lengths for trainer Roger Charlton. He joined past winners such as Al Kazeem (2011), Cannock Chase (2014) and Time Test (2015) more than proving this brilliant Paco Boy’s colts worth for co-owners Qatar Racing and Mrs Markham.
Two more impressive wins for Paco Boy’s progeny over the weekend with 4 y-o Azraff winning the 1m Planteur Handicap at Newbury for trainer Marco Botti and owners Saleh Al Homaizi & Imad Al Sagar and Mr Orange winning easily in the BDS Yorkshire Handicap at Thirsk.

Having just come back to earth on Sunday after Galileo Gold’s success in the 2,000 Guineas, team Highclere were thrilled to see another Paco Boy called Chicadoro put in a terrific performance to finish 2nd in the Pretty Polly Stakes, which is known as one of the first Oaks Trials. Chicadoro looks like a big improver as this was only her 3rd start so she will undoubtedly be contending in Group company this season.
This weekend saw Paco Boy become a classic producing sire in only his 2nd crop as Al Shaqab owned Galileo Gold stormed to victory in the 2,000 Guineas. Bred by Highclere Stud’s previous stud manager Brian O’Rourke, Galileo Gold is the first foal out of Galileo mare Galicuix, a twice-raced half-sister to last year’s King’s Stand Stakes and Prix de l’Abbaye hero Goldream. After foaling the colt, Galicuix was again covered by Paco Boy and the resulting progeny topped last year’s DBS Premier Yearling Sale when bought by Tony Nerses for £280,000. Subsequently named Choumicha she is a stablemate of Galileo Gold at Palmer’s Kremlin Cottage Stables in Newmarket.

Another double for team Highclere came over the weekend when the John and Jake Warren purchased Predominance justified favouritism to win a 7f Handicap at Haydock, William Haggas reported after the race that he would be aiming him at the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot.
The second success was when 3YO Opposition won his maiden with ease at Doncaster over 1m4f, trainer Ed Dunlop said ‘he has done well physically over the winter and there is a lot more to come from this scopey individual’.
Paco Boy sired two very impressive maiden winners this weekend!
Maneen, trained by Dermot Weld, won on his second time of asking beating full brother to Roderic O’Connor in a decent maiden at Limerick on Saturday over a mile.
Imperial Aviator trained by Roger Charlton decisively put aside an incredibly smart field of Derby prospects at Leicester on Saturday over 1m2f and looks to be a Group horse in the making.
Postponed (Dubawi x Ever Rigg) starts 2016 with a double in Dubai, including the Gr.1 Sheema Classic. Postponed is one to follow this summer with trainer Roger Varian looking at the Gr.1 Coronation Cup at Epsom for him.
