Here at Highclere Stud we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and our professionalism both with the horses on the Stud and with our clients. We have a wonderful team here at the moment preparing yearlings for the Sales Season, looking after the mares and foals and keeping the stud running smoothly. They are led by Diego Romeo, our exceptional Stud Manager, and are a fantastic team. We couldn’t do it without them so thank you everyone!
The week started with a bang for Paco Boy with Highclere Stud home grown Galileo Gold (Paco Boy x Galicuix) winning the Gr.2 Qatar Vintage Stakes for Al Shaqab racing. He was ridden to victory by Frankie Dettori and trained by Hugo Palmer. Dettori said: “It was an eventful race and I got the splits at the right time, but he dug deep and he won well. He showed a good attitude and I was very impressed.” An incredible race for a very plucky horse with a bright 3yo future ahead.
To add to the success, Highland Reel, bought by John and Jake Warren in 2012, won the Gr.3 Neptune Investment Management Gordon Stakes. Trained by Aiden O’Brian and ridden by Joseph O’Brian, Highland Reel ‘stamped his little bit of extra class on his rivals in the final stages.’
A glorious week as always for the newly sponsored Qatar Goodwood Festival with incredible racing, serious prize money and wonderful events each evening.
Postponed, bought by John and Jake Warren Bloodstock won The Gr.1 King George VI and Elizabeth Stakes on the 25th July at Ascot. This win proved a huge success for the whole Highclere Team with Postponed (Dubawi x Ever Rigg) winning sensationally under jockey Andrea Atzeni for Luca Cumani. Postponed was bred by Andrew Stone’s St Albans Bloodstock, reared at Highclere Stud, sold by the Highclere Team at Tattersalls Book 1 in 2012 for 360k to John and Jake Warren Bloodstock for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum. An incredible plucky win and a home grown triumph!
