The Highclere Stud reared and consigned, Camelot, stormed to victory in the Investec Derby (Gr.1) today at Epsom. It was his second Classic success as he also won the Qipco 2,000 Guineas (Gr.1) earlier this year.
Defeat never looked likely for this unbeaten three-year-old trained by Aidan O’Brien for the team at Ballydoyle, and ridden by Joseph O’Brien. Camelot had previously cruised to victory in the Racing Post Trophy (Gr.1) at Doncaster last year, and may have the Triple Crown as a future target.
Aidan O’Brien said: “From day one Camelot has been exceptional so we have taken it race by race rather than been dictated by trip. He was very impressive in his two runs at two and we were over the moon with his first run of the year in the Guineas.”
Camelot was the most expensive yearling by Montjeu in 2010 having made 525,000gns at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 when knocked down to Demi O’Byrne. Bred by Sheikh Abdulla Bin Isa Al-Khalifa, he is out of the Kingmambo mare Tarfah, who won the Group 3 Dahlia Stakes.

The Motivator filly, Clinical, won the biggest success of her career when landing the Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Gr.3) on the opening day of Epsom’s Derby meeting.
Trained by Sir Mark Prescott Bt for owner/breeder Cheveley Park Stud, this four-year-old filly was running for the first time this season having finished third in the same race last year as well as winning a trio of Listed races.
Jockey Luke Morris said: “Things worked out well today. She’s a very tough and classy filly.”
Another top class filly by Motivator to run at Epsom today was Vow, who finished a creditable fourth in the Investec Oaks (Gr.1).
